The concentration of fossils in the area are unique, and so attract lots of tourists. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre hosts exhibitions and displays whilst on the ground floor there is a fossil shop.
The Stonebarrow cliffs to the east of Charmouth are an interest to geologists because of the life forms found in the cliffs. The cliffs are Jurassic, getting younger the further East you go until they get to Golden Cap, with its' early Cretaceous rocks.
The Black Ven between Charmouth and Lyme Regos has the largest mudslides in Europe, this constantly brings down new material which can contain fossils to the base of the cliff and beach. Black Ven for this reason, is a famous fossil hunting location
